Celebrating the Power of Leadership: Mangai an Inspiring International Women’s Day Event

On March 8th, the Tamil Institute for Leadership Excellence (TILE) marked International Women’s Day with its signature project, Mangai. This year’s event was not just a celebration but a beacon of inspiration, thanks to the leadership of Abarna and Deepthi of TILE, numerous volunteers, and generous sponsors. The evening was filled with empowerment, networking, and profound discussions, drawing over 100 attendees to the esteemed Old Street Gallary in London, including community activists and leaders.

The heart of the event was our panel of outstanding speakers who shared their inspirational life experiences, offering help and guidance to the attendees. Each speaker brought a unique perspective, enriched by their personal and professional journeys, resonating deeply with everyone present.

Speaker Highlights:
Anisha Kiri, a distinguished criminal defence barrister from Mountford Chambers, discussed the challenges of being a young, brown woman in a male-dominated field. Anisha’s insights into overcoming optics and preconceived notions in the legal profession provided invaluable guidance for aspiring professionals.
Juliet Anton, a Chartered Psychologist with extensive experience in trauma and adult mental health, explored the stigma and challenges faced by South Asian women in the mental health sector. Her work with the South Asian community and dedication to improving mental health care were deeply inspiring.

Mathu Selva, a Technology Consultant at Boston Consulting Group Platinion, shared her transition from a BSc in Chemistry to a trailblazer in the technology consulting world. Mathu’s expertise in solving IT challenges underscores the versatility and adaptability required in today’s dynamic business landscape.
Shana Mahendran, the visionary behind Black Magic Creations, shared her entrepreneurial journey from accountancy to leading one of the foremost wedding production houses. Shana’s story is a testament to the power of ambition and the importance of versatility in achieving success.
Pritt, an artist blending Eastern and Western influences in her music, spoke about using her platform to empower women and spotlight Tamil and South Indian artists. Her achievements, including a BBC Asian Network show and features in major publications, highlight the impact of authentic expression in the arts.

The success of this year’s Mangai event reaffirms TILE’s commitment to celebrating, supporting, inspiring, and empowering Tamil women worldwide.
