“This workshop series has taught me so much about Tamil culture and history, it has given a huge insight into what the lives of our ancestors would’ve been like. It has also helped me appreciate the richness of Tamil literature and the Tamil language. I would recommend this to anyone interested in learning more about their Tamil identity”

“The workshop taught me a lot that I didn’t know and probably would not have learned fr my parents. The ability to look at different theories and discoveries from ancient civilizations helped me feel connected to my Tamil heritage and ancestry. The way the course was designed allows one to explore their curiosity. Thank you so much for the opportunity to learn more and opening my eyes to a history I seldom hear about.”

Gaya Amirthavasar Dapp, San Jose, California, USA

“I would recommend all Tamil people to join this workshop, I have learnt so much and it only makes me want to learn even more about our history. I learnt a whole variety of things and I have already sent info about this workshop to friends and family and will continue to try and promote this. I feel like it is important for me to understand more about Tamil history and heritage as I identify myself as Tamil and I would like other people to also learn more and have pride in our identity as a Tamil. The classes were well presented and executed very well and a lot of good topics were covered. Highly recommended!!”

Santhous Sivasuntharam, London

“Thoroughly enjoyed the workshops and I believe they will inspire youth to do more research into Tamil history in whichever particular areas they are interested in. E.g. Chola empire/kumari kandam/cooking etc… I believe these classes will change many young people’s views on the Tamil community and culture as it destroys negative stigma/stereotypes and shows how our rich, diverse and cool Tamil history and culture is. Therefore I’d highly recommend more people to take part.”

Lavan, London

“I had so much fun and I didn’t expect to learn so much information in such short amount of time.”

Daakshayani Gnanaguru, London

“I thoroughly enjoyed attending these sessions, I appreciate that various topics were addressed and while they were all explained it was left to our discretion to go further explore these topics! Even with this workshop being online we formed such a tight group with all the interaction throughout the series, and that’s hard to find.”

Vharshaa Punithechelvan, Toronto

“I would highly recommend this workshop to anyone curious about their Tamil heritage – I had very little knowledge going into the workshop, and came out knowing so much more and being prouder of my heritage. The discussion element is great, and you meet new people who have the same desire for knowledge”

Dominic, London

“Very passionate and engaging sessions. Every week, we had great opportunity not only to learn but also to critically think about certain topics and discuss within our group members. It also sparked us to go and discuss with our family members after each session.”

Vaaranan Jayakkumar, Toronto.

“If you want to understand your own heritage and culture better, take this course. It definitely made me feel closer to my Tamil heritage! I look forward to signing up to more courses that TILE has to offer”

Judy, London

“Living in the UK we are constantly influenced by the Western culture but outside of speaking Tamil at home and eating Tamil food, I didn’t have much connecting me to my roots. This 6-week series highlighted the richness and depth of the Tamil culture. We were constantly encouraged to ask questions and to contribute to the discussions which made these sessions a lot more engaging than being taught didactically. I also found comfort in meeting others who were also facing similar challenges of being part of the Tamil diaspora. I now feel more informed to make better decisions, especially when there’s a clash between our Tamil cultural values and Western cultural values. I would actively encourage you to get involved and get stuck in with the sessions with an open mind, and you’ll be surprised at how much you take away from it all!”
